Cervelo doesn’t see road bikes as delicate machines designed just to put watts in and get speed out. They are an extension of the soul, the way we want to see our worlds and the life we want to lead. Sometimes that means cutting across park grass, and sometimes you have to see where that dirt track on the left takes you. The Caledonia-5 is a bike for the modern road rider.
The Caledonia is the bike they reach for again and again when they know the odometer is going to go well past the three-digit mark. Long rides inevitably have some smooth tarmac, some junk pavement over back roads, a clipped singletrack and maybe even your own local Strade Bianche sector. So they’ve built a bike that can take it all on, and take it well, and they’ve fitted mudguards in case the ominous clouds turn into a downpour at kilometre 130 of your day.
Cervelo developed the Caledonia-5 in collaboration with their World Tour riders to satisfy the need for a dedicated road cobbles bike. Faster handling is not necessarily better – they have tailored the handling to the specific use case. In this case, it’s Roubaix. Roubaix is harder on bikes than any other race on the calendar, and there is zero margin for error. They’ve increased the rear centre, lowered the BB and increased the trail. The handling is still fast, but more stability added.
Modern road cyclists are looking for bikes that can go long distances, set a fast pace, know no limits and offer maximum fun. By using lower modulus carbon fibre in key areas to mitigate the brittleness of high mod fibres, the Caledonia delivers performance, comfort and speed. Oh, and it’s suitable for use with a 34mm tyre. Or 31mm with mudguards.
Aero cable routing
Cervelo’s frame, fork, handlebars and connected components are designed to hide the brake and shift cables (mechanical, electric and hydraulic) from the airflow for improved aerodynamics, without sacrificing usability or performance.
Power adjustment
The Caledonia’s integrated stem and two bearing cap options allow stacks that range from an aggressive 7mm to a relaxed 22mm without the use of spacers. With a wider adjustment coordinate (stack) range of 580 mm to 687 mm, the Caledonia can be as low as an R3 or higher than the tallest C3. And it looks and is seamlessly fast in the wind while doing so.
